Jacques Bermon Webster II, better known by his stage name Travis Scott (formerly stylized as Travi$ Scott), was born on April 30, 1991, in the United States. His stage name is the combination of the first name of one of his musical influences, Kid Cudi, and the name of a beloved uncle (whose real name is Scott Mescudi).

Scott has become well-known for controversy and legal problems involving performance security. Scott was widely criticized after a mass-casualty crowd crush happened during his performance at the Astroworld Festival in Houston, Texas, in November 2021.

Early Life

Houston, Texas, welcomed Jacques Bermon Webster II on April 30, 1991. From the time he was one until he was six, Webster resided in South Park, Houston, with his grandmother. A young Webster was affected by the neighborhood's reputation for crime, which was in south-central Houston.

"Growing up, my grandmother stayed in the 'hood so I seen random crazy shit. [I saw] mad bums and crazy spazzed out motherfuckers, I saw people looking weird, hungry, and grimey [sic]. I was always like, 'I gotta get the fuck out this shit.' It gave me my edge—[it made me] who I am right now. It gave me my competitive edge and helped shape who I am today."

To live with his parents, Webster relocated to Missouri City, a middle-class suburban region bordering southwest Houston. His father owned a little business, while his mother worked for Apple. Webster's grandfather was a jazz composer, and his father is also a soul musician.

Webster graduated at age 17 from Elkins High School. He performed in musical theater while in high school. Following that, Webster enrolled at the University of Texas at San Antonio, but left after his second year to focus solely on his musical career.

Together with his old buddy Chris Holloway, Webster founded the group The Graduates. The group made their untitled first EP available on the social networking platform Myspace in 2008.

The Classmates was started the next year by Scott and OG Chess, a fellow student. Buddy Rich and Cruis'n USA were two projects that The Classmates released in 2009 and 2010, respectively. Scott was mostly in charge of both projects' production. The pair remained together until late 2012, when they broke up due to interpersonal issues and money problems.

Scott relocated from Houston to Washington Heights in New York City after finishing college, where he started working with a friend, Mike Waxx, who ran the music website Illroots.

After relocating to New York, Scott stayed with a buddy and slept on the floor while he spent the most of his time at Just Blaze's studio. Scott spent barely four months in New York before becoming dissatisfied with the lack of progress and leaving the city for Los Angeles, California.

In 2012, Scott inked a publishing agreement with Kanye West's GOOD Music and his first major-label contract with Epic Records. He agreed to a combined recording deal with Epic and T.I.'s Grand Hustle imprint in April 2013.

The mixtape Owl Pharaoh, Scott's debut full-length effort, was independently released in 2013. Days Before Rodeo, a second mixtape released in 2014, came after it. The popular single "Antidote" from his 2015 studio debut, Rodeo, served as its centerpiece.

Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight (2016), his second album, and his first to reach number one on the Billboard 200. The following year, Scott and Quavo formed the group Huncho Jack and jointly released the album Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho.

His third studio album, Astroworld, was released in 2018 to positive reviews and yielded "Sicko Mode," his first Billboard Hot 100 number one song (featuring Drake).

The compilation album JackBoys, which Scott's record company Cactus Jack Records published in late 2019, peaked the Billboard 200. Scott became the first artist on the Hot 100 to have three singles debut at number one in less than a year after the release of his single "Franchise" in 2020, which features Young Thug and M.I.A.

Scott has become into a well-known pop culture icon and artist throughout the course of his career. Scott has worked with companies like Nike, Dior, and McDonald's in addition to his well reported relationship with American media celebrity Kylie Jenner.

He started the record company Cactus Jack Records in 2017. Scott has had 80 songs chart at some point during his career, including four number-one successes on the Billboard Hot 100.
